CoVid19 Pandemic Update 3 UK Death figures reach over 16,000

New figures released mid afternoon on Sunday 19 April 2020 shocked many who had hoped the UK Government could succeed in stopping the growth of the CoVid19 virus in the population. Figures released that Britain could be on the brink of a catastrophic health emergency with 16060 deaths reported, in the country. Observers warn that this may not reflect the true extent of the numbers infected with the virus, in that it is more likely  the figure would be 3 times that due to the way the virus spreads in blocks of 30 percent growth per day. In any one week the virus can spread up to 90 percent from the first day of the week's figure, meaning that in reality by the end of this week Britain could be facing deaths of up to 20,000 by next weekend if it does not succeed in breaking the cycle of severe and rapid transmission of the disease.

In Scotland, which has had 903 (overnight) deaths reported today, Sunday and you can see the daily report at the Scottish Government website Here   When these figures are added to the projected number of suspected death in care homes of around 220 it is likely there have been around 1100 deaths and it indicates that Scotland may loose the battle with the virus.  While Scotland may have a window of opportunity to stop the flow of deaths it is not clear that the authorities NHS and Government have the 'where, with, all' to effectively stamp out the growth factors of the virus in the NHS or the wider community. To date the Scottish government has failed to keep the growth rate down to the advised rate of under 30 percent growth per day.

In Scotland measures for the vulnerable who require to be shielded from the virus have been criticised because it has only deemed that around 200,000 people in a population of over 5 million will require food boxes and special assistance in their new scheme to assist those who can't get out to shop or leave their homes. Due to mounting pressure from lobbying bodies for the vulnerable who do not meet the supposed guidelines list for food shopping assistance a new helpline number has been set up in order to try to get this severely isolated group more help. The number is 0800 111 4000 and you can see the details on this BBC news report Here It is believed that many  people with chronic diseases will fall through the cracks in this provision which is being given to only  less than 15% of the vulnerable people in Scotland, whose chronic illnesses could jeopardise normal and fair living standards during the CoVid Crisis.

This week the debate about the causes of the virus extended to a controversial debate about who was to blame for the worldwide outbreak with many mooting for the first time that the characteristics of the virus which attacked the human immune system and lungs in such a virulent way that it may have been a product of a malicious laboratory research scheme from an unknown source. Doctors in the USA have also raised their concerns about the origins of the virus siting the work of hitherto unknown individuals and department who were in charge of USA medical research systems. While the basis of these claims is not clear yet, it raises the serious question that any such research should not be conducted by any country should it cause the threat of lab virus escaping into the general population. Care of the sick and how to treat them has continues to put New York in crisis with the appearance of mass graves,  at a time when ventilators have in fact often killed victims when applied at the wrong stage.
At time of writing new information was brought to me about the New York Doctor Cameron Kyle Sidell's very important  opinion that treatment protocol should be oxygen not ventilators. Since his report doctors have reviewed the use of ventilators in favour of oxygen in the first instance.

Sadly warnings from human rights advocates about the way dead bodies have been disposed in mass graves remains a cause for concern. Meanwhile President Trump pledges to get people back to work by introducing a phased withdrawal of the lockdown over the next few months despite the fact there have been over 40,000 deaths in America.
